The Vigils
The Vigils are about holding space to think, reflect and act. A series of four performance events giving platform to the urgent thematics of Black, Rites, Earth and Sex. Events will take place from 7-10pm on the advertised date with a gathering to unpack the work the following day (times to be announced closer to each event).
Black:
Salome Asega is a Brooklyn-based artist and researcher whose practice celebrates dissensus and multivocality.... Iyapo Repository is a resource library which houses a collection of digital and physical artifacts created to affirm and project the future of people of African descent. The collection is managed and developed through a series of participatory workshops where participants become archivists of a future history they envision.
FUPU is the white male patriarchy’s reckoning. It’s dressed in an all-Black, femme punk band, but it’s the war for reparations incarnate. FUPU does not represent the same ol’ coy request for equality, it’s a declarative statement: we have BEEN understanding and humble to the point of detriment, so new rules - FUCK U PAY US and SUCK MY NAPPY BLACK PUSSY.
Jade Montserrat studied at Courtauld Institute of Art (2003) and Norwich School of Art and Design, MA Drawing (2010) and is a Stuart Hall Foundation PhD scholar at IBAR, UCLAN. Jade works at the intersections of art and activism, progressing through performance and live art, works on paper and interdisciplinary projects. Jade works collaboratively with Network 11, Press Room, the Conway Cohort and Rainbow Tribe: Affectionate Movement.

LEIBNIZ is a fluid Live Art collective composed of international artists with eclectic backgrounds in the visual and performing arts. The collective was co-founded by Ernst Fischer and Helen Spackman in 2005 with the specific aims of: blurring the boundaries between spaces and disciplines; creating rituals and mythologies for a secular age; presenting innovative theatrical productions as social and interactive events; generating new audiences and assisting emergent artists.

Correia’s artwork is mostly a response to environmental justice, often interdisciplinary involving scientists, activists and lawyers. Change takes center stage in her work by tackling utopian healing and proposing actions that merge clinical questions about human condition and inter connectivity between natural world. Correia's work is based on participatory articulations, by aiming social transformation, she creates her own platform of communal utterance for radical thinking.
Nowhere Kitchen is a content and service provider of experience designs starting with food: one of the basic human elements of survival and the foundation of culture. Behind this concept is an improvisational methodology of ‘cooking with what is there’ inspired by the practice of renewing leftovers. It was initiated by Pepe Dayaw as an ethnography of crisis where he cooked impromptu dinners in different houses in Madrid in 2012 (Es Cena).

Tolentino creates intimate solo movement-based installations including her durational performances, sculptural endurance events & audio soundscapes. This Fall, she began a year-long artist residency & new performance for HMD 2017 Bridge Project in San Francisco on art & activism with four local artists: THE HARD CORPS. Tolentino's research is centred on the movement based installation projects: THE VOIDS: On Earth, We Are Only Briefly Gorgeous & her archival project: The Sky Remains The Same.

Rocío Boliver is a Mexican performance artist who creates body art about the repression of women in Mexico. In 1992, Boliver began her career as a performance artist reading her porno-erotic writings. Boliver has a background in video and Mexican theatre. She worked in theatre projects, performance and contemporary art under the prominent playwright Juan José Gurrola from 1994 to 2007. Boliver has performed at a variety of venues such as museums, raves, universities and galleries...
