Performance Matters: Trashing Performance - October 2011

 

Trashing Performance explores cultural practices which enjoy, or suffer from, a troubled relationship to establishment culture. Focusing upon strategies of ‘trashing’ adopted by practitioners in performance, film, and visual art, the project explores the worth of creative expression which willfully debunks or ignores cultural ideals and hierarchies of critical value. Taking its cue from performance work often considered trivial by the high-minded, or too left-field by the proprieties of normative taste, Trashing Performance mines the ethical and political potentials of irreverent and sometimes overlooked creative practices in the contemporary public sphere.

 

A collaboration between Goldsmiths, University of London, Roehampton University, and the Live Art Development Agency.
